On January 29, 2025, a horrific mid-air collision over Washington, D.C., involved American Airlines Flight 5342 and a U.S. Army Black Hawk helicopter. The accident killed all 64 people aboard the commercial flight and the military personnel in the helicopter. As the nation mourns the loss, we are remembering the lives of those who died.

A Groom-to-Be Pilot

The victims included a young pilot soon to be married, passionate about aviation but even more so about his bride-to-be. Those who knew him remembered a contagious enthusiasm, the zest of life he carried with him always.

An Indian immigrant daughter

A list of lives being cut short includes the bright promising career from a recent graduation, that daughter of immigrants who now her parents proudly watch over her body. She saw her family struggle to give her opportunities. Figure skating, really, is all about the community-in mourning.

The entire figure skating world was immensely affected due to the presence of several athletes and coaches en route to a national championship. Their devotion to the sport and mentorship of young talent have chiseled their memories forever in this tight-knit community.

Families and Loved Ones

There were whole families on board; parents traveling with their children. The tragedy has left a dent in societies all over the nation, where friends and relatives try to comprehend the sudden loss of their loved ones.

Military Personnel

The U.S. Army helicopter crew also lost their lives due to the collision of the chopper.

The personnel in this Army helicopter served and gave their lives for their motherland; may their souls be honored as sacrifices.

While further investigations into the cause of this catastrophic accident are under way, we hold the memories of those who have been lost in our hearts and offer our sincerest condolences to their family and friends.
