In a dominating performance, Mumbai Indians (MI) thrashed Gujarat Giants (GG) by five wickets in their Women’s Premier League (WPL) 2025 match against Gujarat Giants (GG) at Kotambi Stadium, Vadodara, on February 18. MI extended their unbeaten record against GG to 5-0 in head-to-head encounters with this victory.

Gujarat Giants Batsmen Dilemma

Winning the toss and choosing to bat, GG managed just 120 runs against the tight bowling of MI. Harleen Deol was the highest scorer with 32 runs, assisted by Kashvee Gautam with a valuable 20 runs at the fag end. Their strategy of playing a free game proved futile as wickets fell at intervals.

Nat Sciver-Brunt spearheaded MI’s bowling with 2/26, well assisted by Hayley Matthews, Shabnim Ismail, Amelia Kerr, and Amanjot Kaur, all of whom took a wicket. Their disciplined spells deprived Gujarat’s batters of any opportunity to build stable stands.

Sciver-Brunt Leads MI to Victory

Pursuing 121, MI suffered an early jolt, losing Hayley Matthews (17) and Yastika Bhatia (8) economically. Nevertheless, Nat Sciver-Brunt asserted herself, hitting a magnificent 57 off 39 deliveries, with 11 boundaries.

Even after Harmanpreet Kaur (4) was dismissed, Sciver-Brunt had a vital 45-run stand with Amelia Kerr (19). Though she was caught by Priya Mishra, Sajeevan Sajana and G Kamalini guided the side to the target in 16.1 overs.

Key Takeaways

Sciver-Brunt’s All-Round Brilliance: A match-winning batting and bowling performance.

Gujarat’s Batting Failures: Over-aggression and lack of partnerships proved costly.

Mumbai’s Ongoing Supremacy: MI is unbeaten against GG with a 5-0 win-loss ratio.

It was MI’s first win this season, making the point that MI was again among title contenders for WPL 2025.
